Tim,

Sorry to hear about your problems, and I can't truly answer your questions.

Your best bet would be to take it to a trusted mechanic to give you your best bet options. Driving a vehicle with engine problems will only cause more problems, especially the amount of miles you are driving on a daily basis.

Driving on 3 cyl can be done for a short period of time, but you are basically killing the engine overall.

One trusted mechanic I would go to is on the southside of Richmond, on Midlothian Turnpike past Robious Rd. Allen Tire, and ask for Bob the general manager. They will give you honest advice, prices and do exceptional work.

I hope you find your answer and sorry about your problems.

I did a compression check on my 1.9L 96 Saturn, (254k mi.) #3 cyl was near (0) psi while the other 3 were 165 - 178 psi. My question is would this be the piston or rings? Is there a way to know? Would the engine have to be overhauled? Lastly, this still runs!! Blue exhaust tells me it must be burning oil. If I remove the fuel injector electrical connector on the bad cyl (engine has no change whatsoever when I pull the spark plug wire off #3 cyl) & drove it until it died would I essentially be driving a 3 cylinder or would I bust any internal crank shaft, cam shaft etc...& leave engine parts all over the hi-way? (When you stop laughing:), My daily commute is 110 mi round trip & I was getting near 40 mpg but right now a replacement car would be near impossible! (Zero $$$'s). Please give me your best guess what my chances are for commuting with this car. Or how would I know if a repair may be worth parking the car to avoid further damage until I have the money to replace or repair the engine?
Thanks, Tim
